I haven’t abandoned ship, just taking a photography course. This is an annual event for me and my partner in crime, er, uh, my phreaky photog phriend, Julea. It is truly a privilege to be attending this Texas Professional Photographers Association School. This year’s school has 1,088 attendees, which is about the same as last year. But the classroom sizes are small enough to still allow for personal attention and instruction. We have two great “Wranglers”, Rhea and Peter, who keep all of us cats herded, somewhat, make sure all of the equipment is set up and taken down, and keep the instructors up to date on where we are supposed to be and when. In their spare time they learn along with the rest of us. My instructors are certainly world-class. This year is a “2-fer” at school, too. BONUS! Doug Box, Master Photographer of Doug Box Photography located in Caldwell, Texas. Doug is a published author and has just earned his one-thousandth merit through the Professional Photographers Association making him only one of four people to have ever reached this milestone. Randy Kerr of Smithville, Texas, has photographed many Austin politicians, dignitaries, and entertainers – Rick Perry, Ann Richards, Laura Bush, and Willie Nelson, just to name a few. Randy was the “black tie” event photographer for the Driskill Hotel in Austin, Texas for 22 years and has photographed over 3,000 weddings. He has traveled to The Congo and is passionate about the people of this region. He is a missionary to the Congo and is planning his third trip. Check out more about Randy’s current projects here. These guys are absolutely brilliant and yet are so humble and down to earth it’s crazy. Crazy GOOD! In this day and age of “it’s all about me”, Doug and Randy teach this class with the enthusiasm of a child and the understanding and experience of the world class photographers that they are. And, it’s quite obvious that they truly care about making sure we have an exceptional learning experience. How refreshing! Anyhoo, I’m learning lots and can’t wait to put the things I’ve learned into practice. Learners never quit. Quitters never learn. Suz You can purchase high-resolution photos of many recipe pictures and others here. They make great kitchen decor and gifts. Also, the notecards are great for sharing recipes! More added every week.
